Hey guys! So I am taking part in an Alumni benefit show back home in Texas THIS January! Below is my story about how special this theatre and school is to me. I hope you will read it and, if you feel led to do so, contribute to make this fundraiser show a success and help make performing arts education in Dallas/Fort Worth possible for new generations of students with this wonderful theatre school that changed my life.
MY CATS STORY: Creative Arts Theatre & School -
I first began taking classes with the wonderful Taffy Geisel and quickly fell in love with the art of telling stories on stage. My very first play I saw at CATS was Godspell and it was definitively the show that made me realize I wanted to be on stage doing what they did. I auditioned for the summer show series at the age of 12, booked the lead role in “Don Coyote” (yes… I had a tail) and began doing shows nonstop for the next 8 years of my life at CATS. I became heavily involved in the tech theatre as well and my first job out of high school would be the position of Technical Coordinator for CATS Theatre. When I was 17, I began classes with Stacy Schronk which really took my passion for the craft of acting to the next level. Once something I enjoyed as a hobby, it quickly became something I poured myself into full time. Stacy would go on to sponsor the reinvention of Alley Cats which was a creative space imagined for and by older students. There, as one of the founders and co-runners, I would work with fellow students to create original material and perform material that was outside of the range of work we usually got to be involved in. That environment of creative fusion and exploration changed my life immensely and I have taken those same ideas and skills and applied it to the work I now do today with my own production company here in Los Angeles. Over the course of my 8 years at CATS, I developed the professional skills I would need to pursue the career I now have in Los Angeles as well as the passion and love for the arts that has sustained me creatively over the past 6 years . As a newbie in LA, I realized just how much the teachers and learning environment at CATS had prepared me to take on the professional world of acting. I am forever grateful to the teachers and students of CATS theatre for helping me find my lifelong passion for the performing arts.
